Wing & Weft Gloves

Manhattan

Wing & Weft Gloves is the last glove factory in New York City’s Garment District. The business was started in 1974 under the name Lacrasia Gloves, and was changed to Wing & Weft Gloves in 2017 when Katie Sue Nicklos acquired the company. Katie Sue, who started out as a customer of Lacrasia Gloves, was chosen to take over the company from its previous owners.

Katie Sue is trained in theatrical costuming with a BA from McPherson College in Kansas and an MA from University of Northern Iowa, and has created costumes for specialty clients since 2004. As Katie Sue puts it, Wing & Weft products are made by incredibly talented artisans in one of the most expensive cities in the world to have a business in: “With our gloves, you get what you pay for.”

Wing & Weft gloves have been sported by celebrities from Beyonce and Prince, to Dr. Jill Biden and Michelle Obama. The company has worked with designers from Louis Vuitton, Vera Wang, and Oscar de la Renta, as well as costume designers from The Gilded Age, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Funny Girl, A Strange Loop, and MJ The Musical. The MJ The Musical work is apt, as Wing & Weft as Lacrasia Gloves made the King of Pop’s original iconic white gloves.

Katie Sue sees the Garment District as the only place where Wing & Weft can have a viable business, and as an ecosystem that fosters opportunities for her clientele, materials, and employees.
