NSUO SKIN
We’re proud to spotlight NSUO SKIN for BlackBusinessMonth, founded by Jessica Hammond. Born from a love of travel and a deep connection to community, NSUO SKIN crafts alkaline vegan skincare products, including sun protection and luxurious face and eye crèmes. The brand’s name, “NSUO,” meaning water in the Ghanaian Twi dialect, reflects their belief in water’s healing power—just as our bodies are made up of at least 75% water.
Jessica and her team personally source rare herbs from around the world, transforming them into oils and butters in their Bushwick kitchen. Their meticulous, hand-made process has earned them the nickname “Black La Mer” from loyal customers, a testament to the unmatched results of their products.
Despite challenges like recipe theft and the high costs of sourcing ingredients, NSUO SKIN has remained resilient. Jessica’s commitment to community is unwavering, as the business continues to give back through donations that support education, clothing, and other essentials in underserved areas.
As a Black-owned business, Jessica sees NSUO SKIN as a symbol of perseverance against adversity. Her advice to other aspiring Black entrepreneurs? “There is strength in numbers! Don’t be afraid to team up and ask for help.”
NSUO SKIN is more than just skincare; it’s a movement to teach the community how to heal and understand their bodies.
