Saint Malo Designs

Saint Malo was founded in March 2025 by sisters Kat and Fran, alongside their close friend Jess. The idea began a year earlier when Fran moved into her first apartment in New York City. She had meaningful photos and posters from college but wanted a more elevated way to display them. Kat suggested creating custom frames in any fabric or color she loved, transforming simple prints into something personal and design-forward. What started as a one-off project quickly turned into requests from friends and family, and soon after, Saint Malo launched on Etsy. Customers across the U.S. responded immediately to the idea of frames that could be tailored to their exact style, space, and artwork.

Today, Saint Malo creates premium fabric-wrapped frames and custom lampshades, all handcrafted in our NYC studio. Our signature bobbin frames feature hand-painted wooden profiles, while our upholstered frames and lampshades are finished with carefully selected fabrics for both quality and durability. We specialize in fully customizable pieces, offering made-to-order sizing, custom paint colors, and fabric selection so each product fits seamlessly into a customer’s home. Many clients come to us with a specific vision, and we work closely with them to design pieces that feel personal, intentional, and one-of-a-kind.

In addition to our online shop, Saint Malo offers in-person frame-making parties throughout the NYC area. These hands-on workshops allow guests to design and build their own fabric-covered frames using curated materials and guided instruction, making them popular for birthdays, holidays, and special events. Whether through our custom orders, studio production, or experiential workshops, Saint Malo is rooted in thoughtful craftsmanship, creative expression, and the belief that everyday objects can be both functional and deeply personal.
