Uqnatu
Uqnatu is a Brooklyn-based slow fashion label by designer Laura Foos. Since 2018, it has been produced in Long Island City. The name comes from ancient Babylonian and means indigo-dyed fabric.
Founded in 2018
Uqnatu garments are developed through a hands-on studio process that includes draping, pattern making, and prototype sewing. Most production takes place locally in New York City, primarily in Long Island City. Uqnatu works with organic cottons, deadstock fabrics, and selvage denim to create wearable basics that embody timeless design and ethical production values.
As a one-person company, Uqnatu represents a deeply personal commitment to building a fashion practice rooted in slow production and quality. The brand aims to offer garments with soul—pieces that reflect care, history, and a meaningful relationship between material, maker, and wearer.
